Ditching the Frumpy Mom Look
As the weather turned cooler this week, I’ve become painfully aware that my wardrobe is a disaster. It didn’t help yesterday morning when I realized that I was wearing a maternity shirt. Or that it’s one of the better shirts in my possession.
Almost all the shirts I owned before pregnancy are worn out, stretched thin or marked with small holes. My jeans are even worse – I had two pairs of jeans that I adored before I got pregnant, but the one pair has holes in the knees (see below), and the other pair … well, let’s just say they are more hole than fabric and I had to toss them. I literally loved them to pieces.
Now, I’ve tried buying things here or there, but its hard to find clothes that really fit a postpartum body that is changing so much from month to month. None of my new pants fit well, and I’ve taken to wearing my ripped jeans again. My recent trips to the mall have been fruitless, apart from learning about jeggings. I see boots I like, but I don’t have pants to go with them. I find pants I like, but they don’t really suit the tops I have. I find a sweater that’s cute, but I’m not really sure if it will go with my other shirts (the ones I don’t actually own yet).
While I’m sure that most people would eagerly embrace a closet makeover, the idea just makes me feel tired. I don’t enjoy shopping, especially with two little ones tagging along. Have you ever been in a change room when your daughter ducks under the door, runs out the store and halfway down the mall? At least the store staff understood when I charged out the front of the store with their clothes on. Thank goodness I was wearing pants.
So this week I’m trying to figure out my own “mom uniform” for the fall and winter and then hit the malls for a power shopping session without the kids. Honestly, just the thought makes me tired lol.
Do you have any suggestions? Feel free to send me style tips or links to blogs that promise to rescue frumpy moms so I can study them intently. And maybe I’ll get to spend the next few months looking mommy-chic instead of mommy-just-got-hit-by-a-train.
