Hi! My name is Tamara.
I live with my husband and our three children: River (age 9), Harbour (age 6) and Forest (age 2).
I didn’t always live an unhurried life. In fact, when River was born, I thought I would go crazy with nothing to do for the 12 long months of maternity leave. I decided to be “productive” over the year, so I enrolled in Political Science at our local university and I started doing freelance web design. After all, the popular parenting books told me that newborns nap twice a day – I figured I’d have plenty of time to get my work done. As luck would have it, River barely slept at all and I did most of my work from 1-3am each night. It wasn’t pretty.
Once my maternity leave ended, I decided to “stay home”. To help make ends meet, I opened a small online store. A year later, the online store became a brick and mortar store and I was much, much busier. And Harbour was born a year after that. And I kept doing online courses. And I decided to homeschool River.
It was a lot and I couldn’t keep up. When we found out I was pregnant with Forest, I decided to leave the store and focus on my family. I knew he would be our last baby and I wanted to savour every minute. It’s funny – I don’t feel any less busy then before, but now I’m busy spending time with my kids and it’s an entirely different kind of busy. We’re busy reading books and making art and climbing trees and baking bread. Now we’ve got the time for that.
I’d love to have you journey with us. You can join my Facebook page or subscribe to the newsletter and have each new post sent to your inbox. Don’t worry – you won’t get a ton of emails cluttering up your inbox. I write slowly, just like I live life.
