My New Year’s Resolution: Stop Being Late…
Last Friday we were late bringing my daughter to school. We were late bringing her to school on Tuesday and Wednesday too. Monday and Thursday? No school those days, but to be fair, we were late for Monday night’s Parent-Teacher interview. We were late for our doctor’s appointment on Thursday afternoon, and we were really late for church on Sunday.
Even on this blog, I haven’t managed to post a WIP Wednesday photo yet — they’ve all been done on Thursday or Friday. Late late late.
Its a frustrating feeling, being late all the time. I feel like I’m telling the world that I’m not in control at all. I can’t stay organized or focused. Even when I plan to leave half hour early, at the very last second I find River’s boot has gone missing and baby Harbour just had a diaper explosion, and also the car door is frozen shut and Harbour just spit up all over her shirt. Before I know it, its past time to leave and I’m struggling to keep my cool. By the time we get in the car, we’re all stressed out.
Since having my first daughter, I haven’t managed to be on time for a thing, and with a second little baby here, the odds have decreased dramatically that we’ll ever be on time again.
I think that our lives would be so much more peaceful if I could just figure this out. This past week, I’ve decided to make a New Year’s Resolution to be on time (yes, I know I’m three months late — hey, at least I’m consistent, right?). Today, I serendipitously* came across this post (20 Small Steps Toward an Easier Day – Fifteen Minutes at a Time) on SimpleKids.net which lists some ideas to make it happen, ideas like:
- Spend 15 minutes preparing the night before for the day ahead
- Get in the habit of spending 5 minutes immediately after each meal washing the dishes with your child (3 meals a day = 15 minutes)
- Lay out the next day’s clothing for yourself and your children the night before
I’m going to try some of these out and see if I can’t become one of those people who sees the previews of the movie and maybe even the announcements at church.
What are your strategies for being on time? Share them with me, I seriously need all the help I can get!
*Yeah, I totally spelled that word right on the first try … just sayin’…
