Wayfarers + ELTL: STILL My Picks for our Charlotte Mason-Inspired Homeschool

My homeschool curriculum picks for our Charlotte Mason-inspired homeschool include: English Lessons Through Literature, Reading Lessons Through Literature, Brave Writers' Jot it Down and Faltering Ownership, Wayfarers for History, Geography and Health, Beast Academy for Math, Science in the Ancient World, and more. So much more.

Curriculum Pick: Foreign Languages

Grade 5

For French, we’re going to stick with Speaking French with Miss Mason and François from Cherrydale Press. I like that it’s easy and fast.

As for Latin? Well, I almost dropped it this year. I love learning Latin with River, but our schedule felt too full and Latin seemed like the least practical of our subjects. My friends disagreed. “Don’t drop something you love!” they argued. I’m pretty sure that they told me to drop science instead, given that River does it on her own time anyway. I wonder how that would have gone over with my family…

I wanted another opinion, so I asked River if she thought we should cut Latin.

“No, I like Latin.”

So it looks like we’re still doing Latin.

I’m so glad, though. I enjoyed our Latin for Children books, and River and I both liked the accompanying Headventures Land website. We moved pretty slowly last year because the grammar is a bit intense. This year, I plan to do a lot of reviewing before we continue on in our book.

Grade 1

I might see if Harbour is interested in doing Song School Latin, or maybe French using Little Pim. She’s usually game to watch anything on TV, but we’ll see. Teaching Harbour a foreign language is just not a priority for me this year.

Pre-School

If you read my blog, you already know that Forest is learning more Spanish than I will ever know. Gracias, Dora. Gracias, Diego.

  1. Thanks for sharing the children’s Bible curriculum! I’m intrigued by it, and am looking through it now. Love how the BCP is incorporated!

  2. Can you share a little more about how you use ECC for your kids? I only have two daughters, a first grader and a third grader, and I pick choose CM resources for our homeschool (history and geography from AO, lit from Mater Amabilis, natural history/science from Sabbath Mood) but haven’t been satisfied with Bible. A lot of stuff out there is too Protestant or too Roman Catholic. Do you just split the storytelling and activities up each day? I like the look of it, especially how it incorporates the BCP, but it seems complicated.

I just discovered Barefoot Meanderings, thanks in part to your posts 🙂 and I am re-doing my entire plan for next year, lol! We will be starting with Ancient History with a 5-year-old daughter doing Pathways and as much of Grammar stage as she can focus on, an 11-year-old doing Grammar stage with dyslexia/learning disabiliteis, and a 12-year-old bumping up into Dialectic, yay! (also dyslexia so it will be a challenge and lots of audiobooks). It looks amazing!!! Can’t wait to start!
